A Paw-some Birthday Card! – IPC 144 Reminder

Hello and welcome back!

If you were thinking about joining the current Inky Paws Sketch Challenge, it’s time to get crafty! You have until Friday night to link your card up to the Inky Paws Blog! And if you haven’t heard about the current challenge, it is a super fun and simple sketch challenge!

Create a project using this sketch as inspiration to join the fun!

For my second challenge card, I wanted to do something a little different, so I decided to turn the sketch upside-down. Rotating the sketch is another fun way to get your creativity flowing and amp up your designs!

To start my card, I stamped the cat image from the Newton’s Birthday Balloons stamp set, as well as three of the small cloud images from the same set. Before I started my coloring, I wanted to figure out a color palette for my card – I knew my background was going to be a light teal, so I wanted to make sure my colored images worked well on the background. Since I wanted my main kitty image to be the most vibrant, I decided to use bright warm colors for the balloons and make my cat black. (There will be a day when I color cats and don’t make one black, but today is not that day!) To color my images, I used:

Cat: 100, W8, W6, W3, W1

Yellow Balloon: Y38, Y35, Y08, Y13, Y00

Orange Balloon: YR09, YR07, YR15, Y17

Pink Balloon: V06, RV66, RV34, RV32, RV21

Present: RV25, RV23, RV21

Clouds: BG13, BG11, BG10

After coloring, I cut my images out using the coordinating dies.

To create my background, I ink blended using a light teal ink – I used Sea Glass from Close To My Heart, but any light colored ink would work for this! After my ink was dry, I blended Versamark Ink over the Confetti Stencil, covering only the ink blended area with confetti. Next, I removed my stencil and sprinkled Clear Glitter embossing powder from Wow! and heat embossed the stenciled area.

For my sentiment, I created two small banners – one banner was cut from plain white paper and the other from a black and white slanted stripe paper. On the white banner, I stamped the “Happy Purr-thday” sentiment in black ink. Next, I layered the sentiment banner over the striped so only part of the striped piece was showing. To assemble my card, I glued the sentiment banners in the upper left corner of my teal embossed panel and used foam tape to adhere my images to create this adorable birthday scene!

I hope you join us in the Inky Paws Challenge for a chance to win a $20 store credit to the Newton’s Nook Online Store!

Thanks for stopping by!
