The stamp set I used today might just be my favorite stamp set of all time. I have a love for any stamp set that has animals or people with umbrellas. I can’t explain it. I don’t love the rain, I don’t even really like the rain, but there is something so adorable about a little critter in a raincoat!
For this card, I did a technique I have only done a couple times before – reverse stamping. (Well, I don’t know if that’s actually what it’s called, but we can just pretend, right?) To do this, I used a stamping pad from Stampin’ Up, but you can do the same technique with a Waffle Flower Media Mat, or anything with that somewhat rubbery texture. For my reverse stamping, I stamped the bottom half of the Newton’s Rainy Day Trio Stamp Set onto the stamping pad using a black ink. Then, I pressed a piece of white cardstock onto the stamping pad, so the reverse of my original image would transfer to my cardstock. I stamped only the bottom part of my image because I only needed the cats’ paws to create my reflection in the water.
Next, I stamped the normal orientation of my stamp onto the same piece of paper, lining up the image with the reverse, so the toes of the cats were touching the reflection of their toes. I made a mask of the image, and covered it with the mask so I could do some ink blending. To make my sky look rainy, I blended Salvaged Patina Distress Ink over the entire panel. To add layers of rain, I first took a stamp that is four solid lines and stamped those horizontally across the panel using Gina K white ink. The white ink kind of blended with the background color, so I decided to try the new (to me) Ink on 3 Altier White Ink and stamp a few dashed lines toward the center of my panel. (And, OMG. BUY THAT INK! It is by far the most pigmented white ink I have ever used.)
To color my image, I used my Copics in the colors:
Cats: W5, W3, W1, W00
Raincoats/Umbrella: YR24, Y17, Y15, Y13, Y11
To finish my card, I stamped the sentiment “meowing in the rain” and a few music notes onto the panel.
I hope you join us in the Inky Paws Challenge! It is such a fun and easy way to get your creative juices flowing!
Thanks for stopping by!
