Hello and welcome back!
Today is the first day of a new Inky Paws Sketch Challenge! Though I can be intimidated by sketch challenges, I had a really fun time playing around with this sketch!
I have always loved the Winter Birds Stamp set from Newton’s Nook – I love the cute birds and the flurry of snowflakes – but I wanted to try to make a fall card with this set. I don’t know how the weather is where you are, but in Ohio it still feels like summer. I am so ready for fall, so I had to bring fall to me with this card!
To start, I colored the small finch (I think it’s a finch? I’m not an ornithologist) (Yes I did look that up) using a few of my Copic markers. I wanted to keep the finch in a brown-ish hue, so I used the colors E17, E15, E13, E11, and E50. After coloring, I cut the bird out using the coordinating dies.
I knew I wanted to make a bunch of leaves for my bird to be sitting in, so I took a piece of white card stock and randomly ink blended using Seedless Preserves, Barn Door, Spiced Marmalade, and Mustard Seed Distress Oxides. Then, I took the leaf die from the Winter Birds Set, the stitched leaf from the Fall Friends Die Set, and the little leaf from the Forest Scene Builder Die Set and cut a bunch of leaves out of the ink blended paper.
To fit the sketch, I cut a stitched rectangle and a few birch trees from the Forest Scene Builder Die Set out of white card stock. I glued the trees in a group in the left side of the rectangle, then started to organize my leaves to figure out how I wanted them to be arranged. When I was happy with the arrangement, I glued the leaves to each other, then I popped all of the leaves up with foam tape and adhered it to my card. I tucked the bird behind a couple leaves and glued him to the leaves.
To finish my card, I stamped the sentiment “I love fall most of all” from the Fall Fringe Stamp Set and added a few sequins around the focal point.
Thanks for stopping by!
