Rainbow Flower Card – Inky Paws 198 Reminder

Cards, Newton's Nook Designs

Hello and welcome back!

There are only a few days left to join the Inky Paws Sketch Challenge! Use the sketch below as inspiration, and link a photo of your project to the Inky Paws Blog for a chance to win $20 to the Newton’s Nook Online Store!

For my second card with this sketch, I decided to focus on die cuts. One of my favorite die sets, the Flower Trio set, is retiring, so I wanted to highlight it before it sold out!

To start my card, I cut six panels of white cardstock to .75in x 3in. Then, I ink blended each panel in rainbow colors. I used a mixture of Catherine Pooler and Distress Inks in these combinations:

Pink: Saltwater Taffy Distress Ink, CP Be Mine Ink, and CP Sparkling Berry Ink

Orange: CP Shea Butter, Dried Marigold Distress Ink, and CP Ginger

Yellow: CP Whipped Honey, CP Glitz, and CP Tiki Torch

Green: CP Garden Party, CP Lime Rickey, and CP Grass Skirt

Teal: Salvaged Patina Distress Ink, CP Seaglass, and CP Daydream

Purple: CP Sixteen Candles, CP Grape Crush, and CP Glam

I also used the darkest of each color and blended a scrap piece of paper going in rainbow order. Using the ink-blended scrap, I die cut some flowers and leaves using the Flower Trio Die Set

To create my card, I started by gluing the rainbow stripes onto a white A2 panel, leaving space on either side. Then, following the colored stripes, I glued the flowers and leaves. For my sentiment, I used “So many thanks” from the Heartfelt Blooms Stamp Set and stamped it in black ink.

Simple Scene Card – Inky Paws 198

Cards, Newton's Nook Designs

Hello and welcome back!

Today is the start of a new Inky Paws Sketch Challenge! Use the sketch below as inspiration for your project and link a photo to the Newton’s Nook Blog by the end of the day, Friday, May 26th for a chance to win $20 to the Newton’s Nook Online Store!

For my card today, I decided to do a clean-and-simple scene.

I started by stamping and coloring one of the dogs and the kite from the Delightful Doxies Stamp Set. I used Copic markers in the following combinations:

Doxie: E18, E17, E15, E13

Kite: E27, YR27, Y08, Y05, Y01

Next, I cut a piece of white cardstock to 4.25in x 5.5in. To emulate the sketch, I used the Clouds Stencil and Salvaged Patina Distress Ink to create a few layers of clouds along the left edge of my cardstock panel. To add a little more interest, I splattered some Chipped Sapphire Distress Ink mixed with water, as well as some Confetti White Perfect Pearls, across the clouds.

To finish my card, I popped up the dog and the kite with foam and adhered them to the card. Lastly, I stamped the sentiment, “you lift me up!” in black ink next to the dog.

I hope you are inspired by the sketch and join us in the Inky Paws Challenge!

I’ve Got You Covered – IPC Reminder

Cards, Newton's Nook Designs

Hello and welcome back!

For my second challenge card, I decided to create a one-layer scene using one of my favorite stamps ever!

To start my card, I cut a piece of Hammermill white card stock to 4.25in x 5.5in. I drew a line in pencil about an inch from the bottom of the panel, so I knew where to stamp my cats and where the water puddle would be. Then, I stamped the image from the Newton’s Rainy Day Trio Stamp set in the middle of the panel, with their feet touching the pencil line.

To color my image, I used copic markers in the following combinations:

Yellow Coats: Y28, Y26, Y15, Y13, Y11

Cats: W5, W3, W1, W00

Water: B28, B26, B24, B21, B00

Once my coloring was finished, I created the stormy sky by ink blending with Distress Inks in Broken China, Prize Ribbon, Chipped Sapphire, and Black Soot.

I heat-set my panel, then heat embossed the sentiments, “feeling under the weather?” and, “I’ve got you covered” from the Newton’s Umbrella Stamp Set.

To finish off my card, I drew in some rain using a white gel pen and added some shimmer to the water using a Nuvo Glitter Pen.

Taco ‘Bout a Birthday – Inky Paws 196

Cards

Hello and welcome back!

Today is the start of a new Inky Paws Challenge, and this one is all about birthdays! I don’t know about you, but I always like to have a few birthday cards in my stash just in case, and this challenge is the perfect way to stock up!

For my card today, I used the adorable Newton Loves Tacos stamp set to make a bright birthday card!

To start, I stamped and colored a few of the images from the set using Copic markers. Here are the combinations I used:

Cats: C5, C3, C2, C00

Margarita: YG17, YG05, YG03, YG00

Tacos: Y38, Y15, Y13, G19, R15

Next, I cut a piece of white cardstock to 4.5in x 5.5in. Using the second smallest circle in the Circle Frames Die Set, I cut three circles out of the white panel in a triangular formation. Using two colors on each circle, I ink blended using Catherine Pooler inks in Matcha, Lime Rickey, and Grass Skirt, as well as Mowed Lawn Distress Ink for the darkest shade. After blending, I splattered the circles with a mix of Confetti White Perfect Pearls and water to add some shine.

For my sentiment, I white heat embossed “Spec-TACO-lar Birthday Wishes” on the darkest circle. To finish my card, I glued the white panel with the cut outs on to a white A2 cardbase, then added the green circle back in going from top to bottom, darkest to lightest. Then, I adhered the die cut images into each circle. For another touch of sparkle, I added a few dots of clear Stickles around the circles.

I hope you join us in the Inky Paws Challenge for a chance to win $20 to the Newton’s Nook Online Store! All you have to do is create a birthday-themed project using Newton’s Nook products and link a photo to the blog for your chance to win!

Hello and welcome back!

There is still time to join the Inky Paws Sketch Challenge! Use the sketch below as inspiration and link a photo to the Inky Paws Blog for a chance to win $20 to the Newton’s Nook Online Store!

For my second card for the challenge, I started by stamping two of the cars from the Beach Bound Stamp Set and coloring them with Copic markers. Here are the combinations I used:

Brown: E18, E17, E15, E13

Dark Teal: BG99, BG96. BG93

Bright Teal: BG49, BG45, BG32, BG11

To emulate the sketch, I cut pieces of white cardstock into two pieces that measure 1.25in x 2.5in and two pieces into 2.5in x 2.5in. Then, I created my background by ink blending with Catherine Pooler Inks in Terracotta, Ginger, Glitz, and Shea Butter. Then, I cut 2 hills using the Land Borders Die Set and a piece of kraft paper.

Rainy Day Card – Inky Paws Challenge 195

Cards

Hello and welcome back!

Today is the beginning of a brand new Inky Paws Challenge on the Newton’s Nook Blog! Use the sketch as inspiration for your next project for a chance to win $20 to the Newton’s Nook Online Store!

For my card today, I started by stamping and coloring the main images from the adorable new Rainy Day Doxie and Newton’s Umbrella stamp sets. I absolutely love both of these sets, and I thought they would make a cute scene together!

For my coloring, I used Copic markers in the following combinations:

Yellows: Y28, Y08, Y04, Y02

Doxie: E18, E17, E15, E13

Cat: 100, W8, W5, W3

Puddle: BG49, BG45, BG32, BG11

After coloring, I cut out my images using the coordinating dies.

To create my background, I cut a piece of watercolor paper to 3.5in x 6.5in. I wanted the background to look rainy, so I ink smooshed using Distress Oxides in Salvaged Patina, Peacock Feathers, Salty Ocean, and Uncharted Mariner. I still wanted some more depth, so I also splattered some clean water and watered down white acrylic paint over the entire background.

To emulate the sketch, I cut down my paper into four panels. For the small panels, I cut them to be 1.5in W x 2.5in L, and I cut the large to 1.5in W x 3.5in L. I adhered all four panels to a piece of white cardstock that was cut to 3.25in W x 6.25in L, leaving about the same amount of white edge around each panel.

For my sentiment, I heat embossed “You make me happy when skies are grey” onto the small, bottom panel using a white embossing powder. I finished my card by popping up the images using some foam tape and adding them to my scene.
