Eek! It’s Time for a New Inky Paws Challenge! – IPC 179

Today is the start of a brand new Inky Paws Challenge! Upload a photo of a project using the challenge colors for a chance to win a $20 voucher to the Newton’s Nook Online Store! I was super inspired by the inspiration image – that cupcake looks so delicious! – so I decided to use the cupcake image from the new Birthday Mice Stamp set. I started by stamping my image and coloring it using Copic markers in the following colors:

Mice: C6, C5, C3. C1, C00

Frosting: RV29, RV25, RV13, RV21

Wrapper: YG45, YG23, YG11, YG00

Candle: 100, W8, W5, W2, W1, YR07, YR04, Y21

After coloring, I cut my images using the coordinating die set.

I wanted to create a mini party scene for my mice, so I cut a white card stock panel down to 4.25×5.5in and ink blended using Saltwater Taffy Distress Ink. I used a very light hand and only went about a third of the way down my panel, starting from the top. Next, I used the A Stencil from the new Bokeh Balloon Stencil set and inked the balloons using the same Saltwater Taffy Ink, but using a heavier hand to create a tone-on-tone design. For the B layer of the stencil, I inked through the stencil using Versamark Ink and heat embossed the balloons using a clear glitter embossing powder. This helped keep the tone-on-tone look, but added a little more interest with the fine glitter inside the powder.

For my sentiment, I heat embossed “I missed your birthday” using a white embossing powder onto a piece of black card stock. Then, I cut the sentiment out using a stitched banner from the Banner Trio Die Set. To tie in the sentiment to the mouse theme, I stamped “eek!” from the Birthday Mice Stamp Set in black ink onto the balloon background.

To finish my card, I popped up the banner and the image on foam tape and adhered it to my panel.

For my second card for this challenge, I wanted to do something a little more whimsical, so I started by stamping and coloring a couple of the cats from the Kitten Beach Stamp Set. To color my images, I used Copic markers in the following colors:

Black Cat: 100, W8, W6, W5, W3

Grey Cat: W4, W2, W1, W00

Sand Castle: E15, E13, E11, E51, E50

Beach Chair: RV29, RV25, RV13, RV21, C3, C1

After coloring, I cut my images using the coordinating die set.

To create my background, I cut a piece of white card stock to 3.5in x 8.5in to make a slimline card front. Next, I used the square masking stencil from the Slimline Masking Squares and Circles Stencil Set and the Waves and Splashes Stencil to create my scene. For the waves, I ink blended Distress Oxides in Prize Ribbon, Peacock Feathers, and Salvaged Patina. After that was dry, I inked over the waves in Versamark ink and heat embossed the waves using a clear glitter embossing powder. I felt like adding the embossing made the waves look so pretty!

When the embossing was dry, I used the masking square stencil to ink up the rest of the openings and create a sunset. For my sunset, I used Distress Oxides in the colors Mustard Seed, Dried Marigold, Kitsch Flamingo, and Picked Raspberry.

When all of my ink blending was dry, I stamped the sentiment “Sanding you a sunny smile” from the Kitten Beach Stamp Set onto the middle panel. To finish it off, I popped up my kittens on foam tape and adhered them to the two outer squares.

Sun and Surf – Inky Paws

A brand new Inky Paws Challenge starts today and it is all about the beach! To join in the fun, create a beach-themed project using Newton’s Nook products and link up a photo to the Inky Paws Blog for a chance to win a $20 voucher to the Newton’s Nook Online Store!

For my card today, I knew I wanted to use the new Beach Bound Stamp Set. I was inspired by an old photo my dad used to have in his home of a vintage VW van driving along the California coast. The picture always made me think of beach vacations and summertime, so I thought it was the perfect inspiration for this challenge!

To start my card, I stamped three of the cars from the Beach Bound Stamp Set onto a piece of Hammermill card stock using a Copic-safe ink. To color my cars, I used Copic markers in the following colors:

Yellow Combo: Y38, Y35, Y13, Y11

Orange Combo: YR07, YR04, YR12, YR21

Pink Combo: RV25, RV13, RV11, RV01

Green Combo: YG45, YG23, YG11, YG00

Teal Combo: BG49, BG45, BG32, BG11

Tires: 100, W8, W5, W2

Next, I moved on to create the background of my scene. To start, I cut a piece of white card stock to 4.25in x 5.5in. Starting at the top of the panel, I ink blended Gina K Wild Dandelion Ink, Spiced Marmalade Distress Ink, and Picked Raspberry Distress Ink.

While that was drying, I cut a strip of white card stock using the stitched wave die from the Sea Borders Die Set and inked it up using Salvaged Patina and Prize Ribbon Distress Ink. To give my waves a bit of shimmer, I splattered a mix of water and Confetti White Perfect Pearls across the panel.

To create my sandy beach, I cut two pieces of kraft card stock using the Land Borders Die Set. To add more texture, I splattered watered down Distress Inks in the colors Frayed Burlap, Walnut Stain, and Ground Espresso. Then, I splattered a little bit of watered down white acrylic paint to finish off the sand.

Before I put my landscape together, I took the inked sunset panel and stenciled the Palm Tree Line Stencil over the inked portion using the same ink colors. By using the same colors over the stencil, I made a subtle tone-on-tone look for the background. I wanted to add a tiny bit more shimmer, so I used the final section of the Palm Tree Line Stencil (the part that creates the lines on the trunk and leaves) and heat embossed it with a clear shimmer embossing powder.

To finish my card, I adhered the sand panels onto the background using a liquid glue. Then, I stamped the sentiment “happy surf-day” onto the wave panel before popping the panel up on foam tape and adhering it to my card. To finish it off, I popped up the cars on foam and glued them to the sandy hills of the card front.

Beach Day Scene – IPC 177 Reminder

Today, I am sharing my second card for the current Inky Paws Sketch challenge! You have until the end of the day Friday to link up a project using the sketch as inspiration for a chance to win a $20 voucher to the Newton’s Nook Online Store!

My card today is a little more interpretive, just to show that you don’t have to follow a sketch exactly.

To start my card, I stamped the image of the girl relaxing in a beach chair from the Summer Moments Stamp Set in the lower left corner of a 4.25in x 5.5in card front. Next, I used the Sunscape Stencil and Distress Oxides in Mustard Seed and Squeezed Lemonade, and ink blended some rays around the stamped image to mimic the sketch.

After my stenciling, I colored my image using Copic markers in the following colors:

Beach Chair: R59, R29, R08, R05, YR09, YR07, YR04, YR12, Y38, Y35, Y13, Y11, YG45, YG23, YG11, YG01, BG49, BG45, BG32, BG11, V09, V06, V04, V01, C3, and C1

Sun Hat: E49, E44, E42, E41

Pants: 100, W8, W6, W5, W3

Skin tone: E15, E13, E11, E51

To finish my card, I stamped the sentiment “Girls just want to have sun!” from the Summer Moments Stamps Set in the upper right side of my card front.

When I saw this sketch, I wasn’t really sure what to do with it. After looking through my stamp sets, I saw the Naughty Newton Stamp Set and got the idea to use the cat pulling at the folded corner of the sketch.

Christmas in (almost) July – IPC 176 Reminder

Instead of using the traditionally Americana color palette for a 4th of July card, I decided to move to a different holiday. Non-traditional Christmas cards are some of my favorite cards to make, and I thought this color palette was the perfect inspiration for a fun winter scene!

I started by stamping and coloring the blue jay and berry clusters from the Winter Birds Stamp Set. I used my Copic markers in the colors: B28, B26, B24, B21, B00, W4, W2, W1, R29, R08, R05, and R14.

After coloring, I cut out my image using the coordinating dies. Next, I ink blended a few pieces of white scrap paper with Distress Oxides in the colors Prize Ribbon, Chipped Sapphire, Mermaid Lagoon, and Salvaged Patina. When the ink was dry, I cut the paper with a few different leaf die cuts from the Winter Birds Coordinating Dies, Fall Friends Die Set, and Flower Trio Die Set.

Using all of the leaf die cuts, I created two curved arrangements to mimic the look of a wreath. I added in a few of the stamped berries to bring in more color. For my background, I cut a piece of white card stock to 4.25×5.5 inches. Then, I inked a larger circle in the center of the panel using Tumbled Glass Distress Ink. To add a little more interest, I splattered some Prize Ribbon Distress Ink across the panel. I wanted a little shimmer, so I used the Petite Snow Stencil and some white stencil butter on the corners as well.

To finish my card, I stamped the sentiment “Warm Winter Wishes” popped up my leaves and blue jay with foam tape and adhered them to my card.

4th of July Card – IPC 176

We have a brand new Inky Paws Challenge for you starting today! This time, we have a color challenge that is perfect for all of your summertime card making! Use the colors Crimson Red, Cobalt Blue, Turquoise, and White on a project and link a photo up to the Inky Paws Blog for a chance to win a $20 voucher to the Newton’s Nook online store!

For my project today, I wanted to make a 4th of July card – I mean, look at the colors for this challenge! I started by stamping the three images from the Newton’s 4th of July stamp set onto a piece of Hammermill card stock. I colored my images with my Copic markers in the following colors:

Black Cats: 100, W8, W6, W5, W3

Siamese Cat: E18, E17, E15, E13, E11, E51, E50

Dog: E18, E17, E15, E13

Dark Blues: B28, B26, B24, B21

Light Blues: B18, B16, B12, B01

Reds: R59, R29, R08, R05, R04

After I finished coloring, I cut out my images using the coordinating dies.

I wanted to create a firework-filled sky for my background, but I also wanted to fit all three of my images on one card, so I decided to use the A7 Frames and Flags Die Set. I cut the rectangle panel of the A7 Die Set out of a piece of Bristol paper (I have found that Bristol works best for doing a lot of ink blending.) I started by randomly adding some circles of ink to the panels of Bristol using Gina K inks in the colors Cherry Red, Lipstick, Turquoise Sea, and Blue Denim. After the ink was dry, I stamped the firework and star stamps from the 4th of July Stamp Set with Versamark Ink over the circles so each circle of color had a firework or star over it. Then, I heat embossed the fireworks with clear embossing powder. This is where the magic happens – after the embossing is cooled, I ink blended Black Soot Distress Oxide over all of the firework panels. Since the fireworks are embossed, the black ink will resist those areas, and you will be left with a black sky and brightly colored fireworks. I wanted to add a little bit of shimmer, so I splattered some silver ink over the panels as well.

For my sentiments, I die cut two of the straight panels from the A7 set and die cut them out of white card stock. Using my MISTI, I stamped the sentiments “celebrate” and “4th of July” onto my banners in black ink. Then, I die cut the scalloped panel and the rectangle panel from the A7 set out of black card stock as well as a 5in x 7in panel out of dark blue card stock. I adhered the black panels to the dark blue piece and inlaid the firework panels in the black frame. To finish everything off. I popped up my sentiments and images on foam and attached them to the card.

Books and Cats – IPC 175 Reminder

For my card today, I wanted to create a simple scene using the Newton’s Book Club Stamp Set and the All Booked Up Stamp Set. These are some of my favorite sets (I mean, what’s better than books and cats?) and they work perfectly together!

I started by stamping the reading cat from the Newton’s Book Club Stamp Set in the lower middle section of a 4.25 x 5.5in white card stock panel. Next, I masked that image and stamped the two cats sitting on books from the Book Club Set and the All Booked Up Stamp Set. I created additional masks for both of those images, masked them, and masked a half inch border around the outside of the panel. Then, I ink blending some Salvaged Patina Distress Ink over the open area.

After the inking, I removed all the masks and colored my scene using Copic markers in the following colors:

White cat: W3, W1, W00, E04, E93

Black cat: 100, W8, W6, W5, W3, E04, E93

Brown cat: E29, E27, E25, E23, E21, E04, E93

Purples: V09, V06, V04, V01

Pinks: RV66, RV55, RV23, RV11

Greens: YG45, YG23, YG11, YG01

Teals: BG45, BG32, BG11, BG10

To finish off my card, I stamped the sentiment “Our story is my favorite” in black ink.

Floating By – Inky Paws 175

Today is the beginning of a new Inky Paws Challenge, and I am SO excited about this one! This challenge is all about creating a one layer card. Don’t be intimidated! There are lot’s of ways to do a one layer card.

For my card, I wanted to create a scene with the Delightful Doxies Stamp Set. This is an older stamp set, but I absolutely love it! I started by cutting a piece of white card stock to 3.5in x 6.5in. On that panel, I stamped the doxie with the string on his tail towards the bottom of the panel. I wanted a bunch of balloons to be attached to his tail, so instead of using the balloon stamp in the set, I stamped the cluster of balloons from the Holding Happiness Stamp Set by masking off the girl and only stamping the balloons. I stamped the first cluster of balloons in the upper center of my card, masked those off, and stamped two more clusters to make a large arrangement of balloons. Leaving the masking on, I stenciled in some clouds using the Clouds Stencil.

To color my card, I used a rainbow of Copic markers in these colors:

Doxie: E18, E17, E15, E13, E11

Pink Balloons: RV29, RV25, RV13, RV21

Orange Balloons: YR07, YR04, YR12, YR21

Yellow Balloons: Y38, Y35, Y13, Y02

Green Balloons: YG17, YG45, YG23, YG11

Teal Balloons: BG49, BG45, BG32, BG11

Blue Balloons: B28, B26, B24, B21

Indigo Balloons: BV08, BV34, BV23, BV01

To finish my card, I stamped the sentiment “You Lift Me Up” from the Delightful Doxies Stamp Set in black ink by the doxie.
