I was super inspired by the inspiration image – that cupcake looks so delicious! – so I decided to use the cupcake image from the new Birthday Mice Stamp set. I started by stamping my image and coloring it using Copic markers in the following colors:

Mice: C6, C5, C3. C1, C00

Frosting: RV29, RV25, RV13, RV21

Wrapper: YG45, YG23, YG11, YG00

Candle: 100, W8, W5, W2, W1, YR07, YR04, Y21

After coloring, I cut my images using the coordinating die set.

I wanted to create a mini party scene for my mice, so I cut a white card stock panel down to 4.25×5.5in and ink blended using Saltwater Taffy Distress Ink. I used a very light hand and only went about a third of the way down my panel, starting from the top. Next, I used the A Stencil from the new Bokeh Balloon Stencil set and inked the balloons using the same Saltwater Taffy Ink, but using a heavier hand to create a tone-on-tone design. For the B layer of the stencil, I inked through the stencil using Versamark Ink and heat embossed the balloons using a clear glitter embossing powder. This helped keep the tone-on-tone look, but added a little more interest with the fine glitter inside the powder.

For my sentiment, I heat embossed “I missed your birthday” using a white embossing powder onto a piece of black card stock. Then, I cut the sentiment out using a stitched banner from the Banner Trio Die Set.  To tie in the sentiment to the mouse theme, I stamped “eek!” from the Birthday Mice Stamp Set in black ink onto the balloon background.

To finish my card, I popped up the banner and the image on foam tape and adhered it to my panel.

Celebratory Cats – Inky Paws 149

Cards

Hello and welcome back!

Today I am sharing my second card for the Inky Paws Color Challenge! There is still time to join the challenge, and it is so easy to join!

For my second card, I decided to use the adorable birthday cats from the Newton’s Birthday Trio Stamp Set. I started by stamping the image on a piece of Copic safe white paper (I used Hammermill 110# white). To color my image, I used:

Mint: BG09, BG05, BG11

Lime Green: G07, YG45, YG23, YG01

Pink: RV66, RV55, RV32, RV11

Plum: V06, V04, V12, V01

White Cat: C3, C1, C00

Siamese Cat: E17, E15, E13, E11, E30, E50

Gray Cat: W6, W5, W3, W1

After coloring my image and cutting it out with the coordinating dies, I cut the smaller stitched square from the Frames Squared Die Set from another piece of white paper. On the stitched square, I ink blended from left to right with the Gina K ink colors Innocent Pink, Key Lime, Turquoise Sea, and Lovely Lavender. After my ink blending was dry, I glued my colored cat image onto the square.

For my background, I cut a white card base to 4.25 x 5.5 inches. Next, I used the Speech Bubbles Die Set to cut out a bunch of white speech bubbles. After cutting everything out, I laid my speech bubbles out and figured out how to best cover my card panel with as many bubbles as I could. When I was happy with my background, I glued my speech bubbles down.

To finish my card, I adhered the ink blended square to the upper middle area of my card using white foam tape. Using my Nuvo glitter pen, I added a little sparkle to the sentiment bubbles, as well as some Glossy Accents for dimension.

I hope you join us in the Inky Paws Color Challenge! You have until Friday night to enter your project on the challenge blog for a chance to win a $20 store credit to the Newton’s Nook Online Store!

A Paw-some Birthday Card! – IPC 144 Reminder

Cards

Hello and welcome back!

If you were thinking about joining the current Inky Paws Sketch Challenge, it’s time to get crafty! You have until Friday night to link your card up to the Inky Paws Blog! And if you haven’t heard about the current challenge, it is a super fun and simple sketch challenge!

Create a project using this sketch as inspiration to join the fun!

For my second challenge card, I wanted to do something a little different, so I decided to turn the sketch upside-down. Rotating the sketch is another fun way to get your creativity flowing and amp up your designs!

To start my card, I stamped the cat image from the Newton’s Birthday Balloons stamp set, as well as three of the small cloud images from the same set. Before I started my coloring, I wanted to figure out a color palette for my card – I knew my background was going to be a light teal, so I wanted to make sure my colored images worked well on the background. Since I wanted my main kitty image to be the most vibrant, I decided to use bright warm colors for the balloons and make my cat black. (There will be a day when I color cats and don’t make one black, but today is not that day!) To color my images, I used:

Cat: 100, W8, W6, W3, W1

Yellow Balloon: Y38, Y35, Y08, Y13, Y00

Orange Balloon: YR09, YR07, YR15, Y17

Pink Balloon: V06, RV66, RV34, RV32, RV21

Present: RV25, RV23, RV21

Clouds: BG13, BG11, BG10

After coloring, I cut my images out using the coordinating dies.

To create my background, I ink blended using a light teal ink – I used Sea Glass from Close To My Heart, but any light colored ink would work for this! After my ink was dry, I blended Versamark Ink over the Confetti Stencil, covering only the ink blended area with confetti. Next, I removed my stencil and sprinkled Clear Glitter embossing powder from Wow! and heat embossed the stenciled area.

For my sentiment, I created two small banners – one banner was cut from plain white paper and the other from a black and white slanted stripe paper. On the white banner, I stamped the “Happy Purr-thday” sentiment in black ink. Next, I layered the sentiment banner over the striped so only part of the striped piece was showing. To assemble my card, I glued the sentiment banners in the upper left corner of my teal embossed panel and used foam tape to adhere my images to create this adorable birthday scene!
