Christmas in (almost) July – IPC 176 Reminder

Cards

Hello and welcome back!

You only have a few more days to join the Inky Paws Color Challenge! Use the colors Crimson Red, Cobalt Blue, Sky Blue, and White on a project and link it up to the Inky Paws Challenge Blog for a chance to win a $20 voucher to the Newton’s Nook Online Store!

Instead of using the traditionally Americana color palette for a 4th of July card, I decided to move to a different holiday. Non-traditional Christmas cards are some of my favorite cards to make, and I thought this color palette was the perfect inspiration for a fun winter scene!

I started by stamping and coloring the blue jay and berry clusters from the Winter Birds Stamp Set. I used my Copic markers in the colors: B28, B26, B24, B21, B00, W4, W2, W1, R29, R08, R05, and R14.

After coloring, I cut out my image using the coordinating dies. Next, I ink blended a few pieces of white scrap paper with Distress Oxides in the colors Prize Ribbon, Chipped Sapphire, Mermaid Lagoon, and Salvaged Patina. When the ink was dry, I cut the paper with a few different leaf die cuts from the Winter Birds Coordinating Dies, Fall Friends Die Set, and Flower Trio Die Set.

Using all of the leaf die cuts, I created two curved arrangements to mimic the look of a wreath. I added in a few of the stamped berries to bring in more color. For my background, I cut a piece of white card stock to 4.25×5.5 inches. Then, I inked a larger circle in the center of the panel using Tumbled Glass Distress Ink. To add a little more interest, I splattered some Prize Ribbon Distress Ink across the panel. I wanted a little shimmer, so I used the Petite Snow Stencil and some white stencil butter on the corners as well.

To finish my card, I stamped the sentiment “Warm Winter Wishes” popped up my leaves and blue jay with foam tape and adhered them to my card.

Heartfelt Holiday – Inky Paws Reminder

Cards

Hello and welcome back!

Have you joined the Inky Paws Challenge yet? There are only a few more days left to join for a chance to win a $20 gift certificate to the Newton’s Nook Online Store!

I was so inspired by the beautiful Heartfelt Holidays Stamp Set from Newton’s Nook and I thought it was the perfect stamp to use for the current color challenge! To start my card, I stamped and die cut the heart image from the Heartfelt Holidays Stamp Set and colored it with my Copic markers.

Dark reds: R29, R08, R05

Light reds: R05, R14, R02

Dark greens: G29, G19, G17

Light greens: YG05, YG23, YG01

Next, I took two pieces of kraft card stock that were cut to 5.5 x 8.5 inches, and scored both on four and a quarter inches and two and an eighth. Next, I folded the flaps to create a double gate fold, and used the slightly smaller heart die from the DIES to cut a window in the front. To add a little more depth to the kraft, I used the heart and created a pattern with white ink all around the card stock.

To finish the card, I glued the colored heart into the middle of the back panel of the card. Then, I cut a strip of red card stock to 1 x 9 and cut the bottom with one of the dies from the Sky Borders Die Set. I folded the strip around my closed card and glued the strip closed, so my card would stay closed when the belly band was on. Lastly, I stamped the sentiment “Peace, Love, & Joy” on to a .75 inch strip of white paper and attached that to the belly band.

I hope you join us in the Inky Paws Challenge! It really is so much fun to join and expands your creativity!

A Snowy Christmas Scene – Inky Paws 161

Cards

Hello and welcome back!

Are you ready for the holidays? I’m definitely not, but this new Inky Paws Challenge had me feeling a little more festive!

When I saw the colors for this challenge, I knew immediately I wanted to use the new Holiday Home Stamp Set from the most recent Newton’s Nook release! To start, I stamped and colored a couple of the images from the Holiday Home Stamp Set using my Copic Markers in these colors:

Dark Reds: R29, R19, R08, R05

Light Reds: R08, R05, R02, R00

Dark Green: G29, G17, G15

Light Green: YG17, YG23, G12, YG11

Brown: E15, E13, E11, E50

Grey: W8, W6, W5, W3, W2

Next, I cut out my images using the coordinating dies, as well as cutting a few hills out of white card stock using the Land Borders Die Set. To add some depth to the hills, I ink blended a little bit of Salvaged Patina Distress Ink at the tops of the hills. I also ink blended Salvaged Patina onto a 4 x 5.25 inch white panel to create my sky. To create some snow in the sky, I splattered some Perfect Pearls mixed with water.

To assemble my card, I stamped the sentiment “wishing you peace and joy this holiday season” in black ink on the bottom hill. Then, I popped up my images with foam tape and adhered it to my scene. Lastly, I added a little glitter to the snow of the stamped images.

If you are inspired by the Inky Paws Challenge, you can enter through November 19 for a chance to win a $20 voucher to the Newton’s Nook Online Store!

An Early Meowy Christmas – Inky Paws Reminder

Cards

Hello and welcome back!

There are just a few days left to join the current Inky Paws Challenge! All you have to do is create a project using Newton’s Nook Products and plaid then, link it up to the Inky Paws Blog for a chance to win a $20 voucher to the online store!

For my second plaid card, I went a little Christmas-y. I’m definitely not ready for the holidays, but I thought a little bit of plaid would be perfect with the Caroling Newton Stamp Set.

To start my card, I stamped the main image from the stamp set and colored it with my Copic markers in the following colors:

Pinks: RV25, RV23, and RV21

Blues: B66, B63, and B60

Yellows: Y17, Y15, and Y11

Purples: V17, V15, V12, and V00

Black Cat: 100, W8, W6, W5, and W3

White Cat: W5, W3, W1, and W00

Siamese Cat: E17, E15, E13, E11, E50, and E00

Next, I cut a piece of white card stock down to 4.25 x 5.5 inches. Using an arched window die (mine was from Waffle Flower), I cut a window out of the card stock. Behind the window, I glued a piece of vellum to give the window a frosted look. To add in my plaid, I glued a piece of plaid patterned paper, in a similar blue to what I colored my cats with, behind the vellum. This diffused the plaid a little and made it look more like a winter scene.

Next, I stamped some snowflakes and the sentiment “Meow to the World” onto the vellum and heat embossed with a white embossing powder. (I should have done that before gluing the vellum to the card stock, but I wasn’t using my brain. Do as I say, not as I do. You already know that though.)

To finish the card, I die cut the caroling cats, popped them up with foam tape, and adhered them to the bottom of the arched window.

I hope you will join us in the Inky Paws Challenge! It really is so much fun to play along with and a great opportunity to get some free Newton products!
