Books and Cats – IPC 175 Reminder

Cards

Hello and welcome back!

Have you joined the Inky Paws Challenge yet? There are still a few more days to create a one layer card for a chance to win $20 to the Newton’s Nook online store!

For my card today, I wanted to create a simple scene using the Newton’s Book Club Stamp Set and the All Booked Up Stamp Set. These are some of my favorite sets (I mean, what’s better than books and cats?) and they work perfectly together!

I started by stamping the reading cat from the Newton’s Book Club Stamp Set in the lower middle section¬†of a 4.25 x 5.5in white card stock panel. Next, I masked that image and stamped the two cats sitting on books from the Book Club Set and the All Booked Up Stamp Set. I created additional masks for both of those images, masked them, and masked a half inch border around the outside of the panel. Then, I ink blending some Salvaged Patina Distress Ink over the open area.¬†

After the inking, I removed all the masks and colored my scene using Copic markers in the following colors:

White cat: W3, W1, W00, E04, E93

Black cat: 100, W8, W6, W5, W3, E04, E93

Brown cat: E29, E27, E25, E23, E21, E04, E93

Purples: V09, V06, V04, V01

Pinks: RV66, RV55, RV23, RV11

Greens: YG45, YG23, YG11, YG01

Teals: BG45, BG32, BG11, BG10

To finish off my card, I stamped the sentiment “Our story is my favorite” in black ink.

I hope you join us in the Inky Paws Challenge! Don’t be intimidated by the one layer theme – there are so many ways to approach a one layer card!

Thanks for stopping by!

Books and Cats – Inky Paws 149

Cards

Hello, again!

There is a new Inky Paws Challenge and I am so excited about it! This time, we have a color challenge inspired by the beautiful colors of succulents.

One of my favorite stamp sets from Newton’s Nook is the Newton’s Book Club Stamp Set, so I decided to use it for my first card for the challenge.

To begin, I stamped the image of the cat reading, the cat sleeping on the stack of books, as well as multiple stacks of books, using the books under the sleeping cat. To color my image, I used Copic Markers in the following colors:

Black Cats: 100, W8, W6, W5, W3, W1

Purple: V04, V12, V01

Teal: BG09, BG05, BG13

Green: YG45, YG23, YG01

Magenta: RV66, RV55, RV32

After coloring, I cut out my images using the coordinating dies. I also cut out a white panel with a scalloped mini slimline die. On the slimline panel, I heat embossed a background text stamp using a white embossing powder. When my embossing powder was set, I splattered a pink and a teal watercolor on to my background panel.

Next, I created two stacks of books by gluing the die cut book images together, making sure one stack is shorter than the other. On the smaller stack of books, I glue the cat with the open book. On the taller stack, I glued the sleeping cat. I glued the smaller stack in front of the taller stack, and then adhered both to my white panel.

To finish my card, I die cut the “I Love Books” sentiment using the die that comes with the coordinating die set for Newton’s Book Club. I glued the sentiment on to my card and finished off by using Glossy Accents on the glasses.

I hope you join us in the Inky Paws Challenge for a chance to win a $20 gift code to the Newton’s Nook Online Store!
