Easy Watercolor with Stencils – Inky Paws 218

Cards, Newton's Nook Designs

Hello and welcome back!

Today is the start of a brand new Inky Paws Color Challenge! Use the colors yellow, lavender, violet, and white on your project and link a photo to the Inky Paws Blog for a chance to win $20 to the Newton’s Nook Online Store!

For my card today, I created a spring-themed card using the Butterflies Layering Stencil Set and a few other products.

To start my card, I cut a piece of watercolor paper to 5.5in x 5.5in. Using the first layer (the silhouettes) of the Butterflies Stencil Set, I ink blended using Catherine Pooler Inks in Sweet Sixteen and Flirty Fuchsia as well as Gina K Inks in Wild Dandelion and Sweet Corn. Just about any inks would work with this technique, but these are the ones I had that fit the challenge colors the best.

Once I was happy with my blending, I removed the stencil. Using a small paint brush dipped in water, I went over the inked areas. I tried to keep it within the lines of the image as much as possible, but I wasn’t too worried about any bleeding, as I wanted a watercolor look. After adding water to the sections, I let it dry completely, and repeated the process with the second stencil.

After the watercolor was dry, I die cut the panel using the largest square from the Frames Squared Die Set. Next, I cut a white circle using the larger circle from the same die set, and stamped the sentiment, “a happy spring hello” from the Spring Blooms Oval Stamp Set on the circle in black ink. To tie in the colors a little more, I colored the open letters in the sentiment with a yellow marker.

To finish off my card, I cut a white card base to 5in x 5in, and added some purple and yellow ink around the edges. I adhered the butterfly panel using a liquid adhesive, then added the sentiment circle with foam tape. To finish the card, I popped on a few yellow gems from my stash.

I hope you join us in the Inky Paws Challenge for a chance to win $20 to the Newton’s Nook Online Store!
